According to the Microsoft Azure blog, you now have more control over the update procedure for disaster recovery of your Azure virtual machines. As of June 3rd, users can enable a customer-provided automation account to handle automatic updating. This is different than the previous procedure, which limited the flexibility and separation of the subscription account. With this new release, users have ultimate access control for recovery updates in the Recovery Services vault.

Microsoft has detailed documentation if you’re curious about how to enable the auto-updates or how automatic virtual machine updates work in general.
